The large, seven-passenger GL-Class was introduced so growing families would have somewhere to migrate to from the smaller ML. Power comes from a 210-hp 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6, a 335-hp 4.5-litre V8 and finally a 382-hp 5.5-litre V8. All three come standard with a seven-speed automatic and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Besides room for people and their stuff, the GL does tow very well. The interior shares most of its pieces with the tasteful ML.

Pros

Big, mighty

Cons

Trying too hard
